The Aftermath

In the 14 years I have lived in this country, I have never been so disillusioned with the current state of affairs. I'm feeling a potent cocktail of emotions. Shock. Anger. Confusion. Disappointment. Frustration. Depression. Hopelessness. Fear. How can two men/women getting married be more important than compassion for the poor, clean air and unpolluted water, and America's credibility in the world? Don't conservatives need affordable healthcare, decent living wages and quality education too? Why is it more moral to defend the rights of the unborn and unwanted than to send young men and women with fathers, mothers, sisters, brothers, husbands, wives, children to their premature deaths in a seemingly unending war launched under false pretext and conducted with utter incompetence? How can people think a draft dodger who's never had to make any sacrifice is more patriotic and more qualified to protect this country than a war hero who bled and killed for America?
